This might be the most relatable thing Bena Hollywood star worth an estimated $150 million, but the man seemingly knows where to draw the line when it comes to superficial purchases for his kids.
On Saturday, Ben and his 13-year-old son, Samuel Affleck — the youngest of three children he shares with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner — paid a visit to a popular sneaker-shopping convention in Los Angeles. Having literally starred in and directed a movie about Nike and the creation of Air Jordans, it’s been known for a while that Ben is quite the sneaker-head — and it now seems his son has inherited that interest, too
At the event, Ben and Sam collaborated with the organizers, Got Sole, to chat about their love of sneakers, and in one clip from the day, Sam sets his eye on a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1s — which if you didn’t know, retail for upwards of $6,000…my eyes are watering.
People examine sneakers at a bustling sneaker convention, engaging in lively discussion and interaction.
While his son eyed up the coveted shoes, Ben looked visibly concerned as he told him, “You like those ‘cause they’re expensive,” which is definitely a sentence I heard come out of my parents’ mouths once upon a time. And his shock only increased when he was told the price of the kicks. “That’s a lot of lawns you gotta’ mow there!” he quipped, suggesting Sam ought to get out and start saving up.

Notably, people in the comments section on TikTok praised Ben’s “normal” reaction to the price tag despite almost definitely being able to afford it. “Ben worth hundreds of millions and said no,” one user commented, praising his decision to make Sam “earn it” instead.
Fortunately, Sam was in agreement that the Dior sneakers were a little overpriced and seemed happy to leave them behind. However, the father-son duo did not go home empty-handed, as a video of Ben leaving the event showed him holding a number of shoebox-sized shopping bags.
Based on another clip, it’s also possible that Ben may have picked up a gift for his brother, fellow Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck, thanks to a suggestion from Sam, who eyed up a pair of original Jordan 1 Chicago sneakers and said, “Dad, you should get these and give them to Uncle Casey.” For what it’s worth, a quick search tells me that those particular sneakers can sell for nearly $35,000, frankly making the Dior 1’s look cheap. I, for one, have no idea how people can justify these prices, so maybe Ben Affleck and I have more in common than I once thought…
Would you buy your child a pair of $6,000 sneakers if you were a multi-millionaire? I probably would, but only on the condition that my hypothetical child promised never to wear them outdoors or touch them. You can find all the clips from Ben’s sneaker-shopping day here.
